Tools and Hardware Reviews of Leatherman 830850 Skeletool CX MultitoolCustomer Review: I take it with me everywhere! Great. Summary: 5 Stars
This is most useful multitool I have ever possessed. It is light weight and convenient plus it looks dead sexy! The simplified tool selection is not even noticed because this has what I want 90% of the time; serrated knife, swappable driver bit, pliers, built-in pocket clip and a highly usable bottle opener. This tool feels great in your hand.
I recommend getting the Leatherman 934870 40 Bit Assortment with Nylon Sheath as a compliment.
The Leatherman 934850 Quick-Release Pocket Clip and Lanyard Ring that is recommend does not go with this tool, it is for the standard line of Leatherman multitools including the Wave.
After 6 months I continue to be very pleased with my purchase.
Customer Review: Great Multitool! Summary: 5 Stars
This has been in my pocket since i bought it. I use it everyday at work, and take it backpacking with me. It doesn't have 300 fold out gadgets, just some basic functions that almost anyone would need. The changeable bits are great, and don't weigh a lot at all. I was skeptical about losing them at first, but I haven't had any trouble at all with them. Great quality for the price, and for those of us who just want things we will actually use day-to-day, this is the tool.
Update: December 2010
Almost a year and a half later, I carry this everywhere and use it at least a few times a day. This tool has saved my [...] more than a few times and wouldn't think twice about purchasing another one if I lost it or something. The blade still is sharp, and pliers are prefect. The screwdriver bits you can tell are used, but they aren't worn bad at all considering I use them daily.
Customer Review: Battle Tested Summary: 5 Stars
First off I would like to say I am a Marine and had the Skeletool CX with me through a deployment work-up and a deployment to Afghanistan. I have had many multitools and knives over the years but this one was the first true combination of both. I'll start out with the bad first, the pliers broke in Afghanistan when my buddy was trying to torque a pin out of a .50-Cal cradle and the blade is ground down so both sides are about the same sharpness (granted I never sharpened it and the environment is fairly tough on equipment). For the pros this tool was able to do anything a normal multitool could do and I love the way the knife was situated for ergonomics when cutting, the clip on the end was useful for clipping the tool to my belt loops for fast attach and detaching. Overall this is an excellent tool and I would and do recommend it to anyone who needs a basic multitool or knife.
Customer Review: so far so good...considering the "heavy usage" Summary: 5 Stars
i've writtten this "review" because i've chosen to respond to amazon's email to do so. having the tool for about a month i've used it possibly two or three times. each time i used it it didn't fail or disappoint me. one time i used the blade to cut a piece of string and the other time i used the wire cutter to extricate the thin string like plastic "thingy" that attaches the price tag to a new garment. i can say with complete certainty and assurance that the knife cut cleanly and the wire cutter cut the "thingy" without any breakage to the jaws. all that being said (tongue in cheek of course) i like having the leatherman with me. i carry it at all times. i like gadgets that are made well and this certainly seems to be one that is. it's solidly built as demonstrated by the heavy usage i put it through. i'm a gadget freak and this fits the bill in the edc tool department.
Customer Review: Intelligent design! Summary: 5 Stars
I carried an original leatherman since 1988.and put it thru some heavy use.
Recently I broke the blade off, and with the general wear on everything else
I decided to retire it.
I started carrying a pocket clip folder instead..but I really missed my pliers and screwdrivers.
It amazed me how the leatherman had become so integral to my everyday life.
Then I found the Skeletool, what a perfect combination!
I have my pliers, knife, and screwdrivers, and its lighter than my original tool.
I love that it has a outside, onehanded, linerlock, plain blade. (of very good steel)
I love the pocket clip, and the caribiner function.
It all feels good in the hand, and in the pocket..even on a waistband.
manufacturing quality is excellent...just like my first leatherman.
Skeletool CX's are Xmas 2010 stocking-stuffer's
