Tools and Hardware Reviews of Leatherman 830039 New Wave Multitool with Leather/Nylon Combination SheathCustomer Review: WHAT A GREAT MULTITOOL!!!!!! Summary: 5 Stars
i got this knife for a birthday present from my brother about 2 years ago and i have been useing it ever since. i have multiple knifes and multitools this is the best by far. the wave ofers anything you may need in a knife its great for camping back packing and day to day use. the disighn of the wave is superior to other knifes , every thing on it is locking and the 4 tools on the outside of the knife have there own lock. the knives are easly opened and closed with 1 hand which often comes in handy when you hand are tied up.the multitool has a regular and surated knife, a file, and a saw on the outer part on the inside there are multiple screwdrivers which are great . there are very few cons beacuase the knife is close to perfic. but the the knife is a little bulky but for the amount of tools it has its more than reasonable. also the lanyard attachment is a little hard to use.overall this is 1 of the best multi tools on the market the price is more than reasonable!
Customer Review: Does everything I need in a good size Summary: 5 Stars
Great tool. Highly recommended. I work in IT and it has everything I could need in a pinch at a client's location - small screwdriver perfect for laptops, large for desktops. Combination of the included scissor and/or knives have been perfect for taking care of cable ties. (would be nice if it had some sort of plastic wedge/putty knife type tool on it but honestly I wouldn't want to do that type of work on-site anyway)
I was unsure about which leatherman to get as some said even this was 'too big' for their pockets and they used a belt clip with it - I don't find that an issue at all in fact it was smaller then I was expecting, perfect to throw in my pocket and I don't even notice it until I need it (which I realized, is quite a bit. It's nice always having it around).
I've also found the ruler to come in handy in a pinch.
If you work in IT don't hesitate - this is worth every penny.
Customer Review: Excellent Multitool Summary: 5 Stars
I love my Wave more than most of my other multitools. I own 6 multitools at the time of this writing, and my Wave is my current favorite that I carry and use all the time.
The one handed blade opening is great. The operation is smooth and the blades themselves are extremely sharp.
I've done a lot of abusive stuff to this multitool, and so far it has held up well. I even sawed through a PVC pipe once in an emergency which I was sure was going to destroy the non-wood saw blade. It cut through nicely and actually made the saw sharper than before (I accidentally cut myself with it seeing if it was still sharp).
It's a great tool and you won't be disappointed.
My only complaint about it is that the internal tools are a little too tight to open comfortably. I wish they were as easy to open as the tools on my Leatherman SuperTool 200.
Customer Review: What's not to like? Summary: 5 Stars
One thing that chaps my hide is a cheap tool. I don't like 'em, I don't buy 'em and I avoid using them if I don't have to. Leatherman is well known for their quality and they don't disappoint here.
Good Points:
This New Wave is extremely well built.
Resists torque/twisting that some other multi-tools don't.
Nice heft, but not too heavy to slip in a pocket.
Smooth and comfortable finish in the hand.
A really nice selection of functional tools.
Great tool locking, easy to release (but only when you want!)
I've used several other multi-tools and beyond the novelty, I never really enjoyed the flip out style (Gerber) because it seemed a bit unstable and difficult to put back. And most of the others cut into the palm. The only detractor is the price, but I don't mind paying for quality and this baby delivers.
Customer Review: The best leatherman to date! Summary: 5 Stars
I have owned Leatherman's for years. And the Wave is the best of the bunch. The most versatile while still being compact and lightweight, forget about the bit options on any multi-tool...what a waste! You will lose the bits, and they are proprietary so expect to pay to replace them. For an ultralight I like the looks of the skeletool, but this is the one that remains on my belt from camping to hiking to working on the job or working on vehicles. I find leatherman to be better than the other brands (Gerber, SOG, don't even consider the made-in-china store brand stuff!) I was raised on Victorinox swiss army knives, but after my first leather man, I haven't gone back. Victorinox still makes a great product, but the overall utility of the leather man is far greater. Until they improve significantly on this one somehow, it will stay right with me.
