Tools and Hardware Reviews of Leatherman 830039 New Wave Multitool with Leather/Nylon Combination Sheath

Customer Review: Simply superb
Summary: 5 Stars

Although now retired, I spent my adult life in the Army (infantry) and law enforcement. A good multitool is indispensable in either profession. Over the course of my careers, I had numerous multitools. None of them compared to the Leatherman Wave.

I received a Leatherman Wave last year as a gift, just in time for Hurricane Katrina. I spent some months in and around the disaster area doing rescue work, and can't tell you how many times I used this superb tool.

Both of the knife blades, plain and serrated, were heavily used and I found them to be up to any task. They were razor sharp and kept a keen edge through the toughest jobs. The pliers and wirecutter performed very well, too. I occasionally used the saw blade and found it to be useful, as well. I used the screwdrivers from time to time and, although not as good as a dedicated screwdriver, they performed better than I expected.

All in all, I am pleased with my Leatherman Wave and would not hesitate to highly recommend this superb tool to anyone in need of a tough, durable multitool.

Customer Review: Leatherman New Wave Multitool
Summary: 5 Stars

I purchased the New Wave Multitool recently and have been very pleased with it. I really like that it has locks for all of the tools. I really had to struggle with going to this larger size tool because I had been carrying a Swiss Army knife for years. It had pliers as well, but they don't compare to the Wave! Also the difference in strength of the pliers as well as the strength and sharpness of the blades between the two is like night and day. I've already put a good inch long cut in my thumb with the knife blade of the Wave when I tried to open it. So my only warning would be to be extra careful when using the one-handed method to open the blade using the thumb hold provided. The mechanism is a little stiff at the moment and that probably caused me to use extra pressure and then my thump slipped off of the thumb hold. I also really like the feature of being able to switch around the screwdrivers from slotted to Phillips, thus providing two screwdrivers in one. If only they would provide a toothpick, tweezers and a pen then this knife would be awesome.

Customer Review: Leatherman Wave is the best all around
Summary: 5 Stars

I was a Swiss Army Knife buff in my youth. It saved my life one time, so knives have been a fixation for me ever since. I was a boyscout, outdoorsman with children and I am a master tradesman who can repair almost anything.

I bought an early version of the Leatherman, liked the idea, but it wouldn't hold up to the riggers of my use.

Then when I was in Australia camping in the outback 10 years ago, I went to an outfitters supply store looking for a new knife and they told me the new Leatherman "Wave" was the choice of most Outbackers. I bought one and it served me relentlessly for years.

I bought my sons other Leathermans (Surge and Supertool) They were larger than the Wave. I found them to be too large to carry around all the time. The Wave is very well built, and does almost anything I need it to, without being too cumbersome. As you will see on the Leatherman site, the Wave is their most popular tool!

You can't go wrong with this wonderful, sharp and well tooled equipment.

Customer Review: The Place to Start
Summary: 5 Stars

I purchased a Leatherman Wave off of Amazon a little while back with the intent of having something 'just in case' I needed it. I've concluded that this tool is definitely THE place to start looking when it comes to multitools. Price was somewhat an issue and the extra features on other Leathermans/Leathermen(?) didn't appeal to me, so I went with the Wave. I carry it with me everywhere I go; right next to my wallet, cellphone, and housekeys. My Wave has found many uses ranging from barbed wire cutters, nail file, glasses adjustment tool, window punch, boxcutter, and paperweight. I'm no knife expert, but the blades on the Wave are, in my limited opinion, very sharp. After a lot of playing around, the pliars and blades come out more easily (just the way I like it). My only complaint is that for those with short fingernails, it is slightly more difficult to get out the other smaller tools but not excessively more difficult. Despite this 'issue', the Leatherman Wave still gets 5 stars out of 5.

Customer Review: Excellent Product
Summary: 5 Stars

I will keep this review short simply because other reviewers have aleady explained all of the product's specifics.

I received a Leatherman Wave from soldiers on a military deployment of my own some three years ago. I was mostly new to multi-tools, although I was currently carrying a gerber multi-tool which was issued to me for deployment.

I don't believe a day went by in which I did not find a use for this Leatherman. It is put together very well and has lasted me through present day. The only wear that concerns me thus far is that my pliers are beginning to slightly misalign. This is no fault of the Leatherman though because it was taken a terribly large amount of abuse, both from myself and all of my acquaintances.

If this Wave breaks I will more than likely pull money out of my pocket to buy another. I basically came here to praise this product because on a daily basis for years it was served me very well. Thank you Leatherman!
