Tools and Hardware Reviews of Leatherman 81040003K Squirt S4 Glacier Multitool with Small Scissors

Customer Review: nice pocket knife
Summary: 4 Stars

This tool works well for me. I only gave it 4 stars since the knife blade hangs occasionally. I left it at home a couple of times and of course those were the days a pair of scissors would have been handy. I always carry it now.

Customer Review: Squirt S4 - Never Leave Home Without It
Summary: 4 Stars

I always carry a small knife or multi-tool with me and I have tried many. However, the Leatherman Squirt S4 is the right tool for me. I especially like the scissors which I use almost every day.

Customer Review: Don't underestimate this tiny tool.
Summary: 3 Stars

This is great for pocket or keychain carry, for times when you don't need the pliers of a larger size Leatherman. The scissors are excellent, and when you fold them open they are quite easy to use. They are heavy-duty enough to cut through plastic clam-shell packages or cut small wires with. The knive is small, but sharp and easy to sharpen (some people won't like the chisel-point, but this is as knife for small jobs, not a hunting knife), which makes it perfect for opening packages, cutting string, etc. The pseudo-phillips head screw driver (flat phillips) actually works quite well. I've tightened some fairly large screws with this thing without the bit or the screw stripping. Leatherman products always seem to be made of quality steel.

The only complaint I have is that the bottle opener is poor. It's really tough to grip under the cap with it. If this is all you have, you'll get the cap off, but it is a shame that such a great little tool is spoiled by a design flaw that should be so easy to spot and fix. Leatherman quality is typically excellent, but I wish they'd improve the bottle opener on this little guy.

That being said, this is an excellent and cool-looking little tool that comes in handy all the time.

UPDATE May 6, 2010: I loved my Squirt so much that I bought one for my girlfriend for Christmas 2008, and she uses it all the time. More recently, I decided to get one for my mom for Mother's Day. I thought it would be useful to keep in her purse, especially since it weighs next-to-nothing. HOWEVER, I was really disappointed with the drop in quality with the most recent Squirt compared with the older two. The knife blade was a bit rough, and rubs against the side of the casing when you close it (a little careful bending fixed this problem), and the scissors didn't snap closed as well as the earlier two models I had. This newest Squirt is a little lighter than the older ones and is clearly of lesser quality. The springs holding the tools open felt a significantly weaker. I'm a little disappointed, and have brought my review down from 4 stars to 3. It's still a useful little tool, but I hope Leatherman doesn't start to skimp on the quality of the rest of their tools.

Customer Review: Poor quality
Summary: 2 Stars

When I got this, the blade looked like it was thin and of lower quality. Sure enough, the tip chipped off three months later, doing something that I had no problem with while using a Leatherman Micra. In general, it's a very portable tool that is easily carried around, and should be used for small tasks.
